|If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all – Isaiah 7:9b|
Psalm 47 7-9
For God is the King over all the earth, sing to him a psalm of praise,
God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne. The nobles of the nations assemble as the people of the God of Abraham, for the Kings of the earth belong to God; he is greatly exalted.
It’s been 70 years since the end of the second world war and the now famous poster ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ was destroyed. This poster was never used as planned as it was only intended to be revealed upon the invasion of Britain by Germany. As this never happened the poster was not officially seen by the public. The discovery of the few remaining posters with the simple but effective message with the Kings crown over the words, struck me spiritually almost immediately when I read it. No matter what we face as the Church of Jesus Christ our King, the words of scripture will keep us calm so we can carry on with all he has called us to do. The trivialization of the original meaning and intent of these words truly speak of our society that replaces the true King and his message with many ideas to fill the void we feel and the longing we have for peace and calm to carry on in life’s journey.
We need to be Christ centred in our asking, not crisis focused.
